      Charles Barrow Prescott (1870-1932) NSA, British, Oil on canvas, Full length portrait of John Stanhope Arkwright (1872-1954) standing in the doorway of Kinsham Court, Herefordshire, Signed and dated '1928' lower right. 84 x 50" John Arkwright was a noted Botanist, he Contributed 19 daffodils to the rhs He was born in London and was the great- great grandson of the cotton-Spinning Industrialist Sir Richard Arkwright. He formerly lived at Hampton Court , Leominster and in 1910 he bought Kinsham Court , Herefordshire. He was elected as MP for Hereford at the 1900 General Election and was private secretary to Gerald Balfour ,President of the Board of Trade He also composed the hymn 'O Valiant Heart' written to honour the war dead of WW1 In 1934 he was knighted and made an Honorary Freeman of the City of Hereford Please Note- we do not make reference to the condition of lots within catalogue descriptions.
