Robert Lorrain Pyne (1836-1908), a landscape painter listed in New York City between 1856-60, is known for painting beautiful sunset landscapes of the Catskills and Berkshire mountains of New York and Massachusetts and exhibiting them at the National Academy of Design between 1861 and 1897. Pyne was part of a group of artists known in art history as the Hudson River School that helped define a painting tradition in the U.S. early in the nineteenth century.
