      Ernesto Rancano (Cuban, born 1968). An original mixed media painting on paper titled "Como un angel sin final". A Surrealist figural composition of an angel with a dog and an smiling moon to the right, over a red sky and landscape. Title at the lower left corner. Artist's signature at the lower right. Presented under glass in an ornate dark wood-like frame. Sight size measures approximately 47" x 31". Dimensions: 58 X 42 X 2 in. Condition: Good overall condition having mild surface wear, with slight ripples and imperfections to the paper in areas, as well as craquelure to paint.       ERNESTO RANCAÑO (Havana, Cuba, 1968). "Rebel drawing". Mixed media on canvas. Signed and titled in the lower left corner. Measurements: 67 x 109 cm. Ernesto Rancaño's art, focused on making the spectator think about the state and destiny of the visual arts in the Cuban and Latin American insular environment, has led the painter to become one of the strongest exponents of Cuban art in its international projection. His work enjoys great recognition from specialized critics, who praise the mastery of his precise drawing, the clear human message and his deep lyricism. His figures are related to pain and medieval Christianity. Thus, in his work it is possible to find a religious, lyrical, poetic and conceptual current, achieved through thorny motifs, metallic flapping, lights and shadows. The feminine universe, with its complexities and mysteries, becomes another interesting point of his production. The result, tremendously expressive works capable of awakening the deepest feelings of those who observe them. Currently, his works are in permanent collections in Panama, Mexico, Jamaica and Spain, including the personal collections of Sean Penn, Sting and Trudy Stayle, Joaquín Sabina, Silvio Rodríguez, Pablo Milanés, Alicia Alonso, Armando Amorin Soares, Liz von Habsturg, Judith Swift, Carlos di Biagio and Luciano Méndez. Multi-faceted artist, he studied at the National School of Plastic Arts from 1987 to 1991, where he graduated in the specialty of Painting and Drawing. He won the First Prize in the Poster Contest sponsored and convened by the CETSS, Havana, Cuba. His works are in permanent collections in Panama, Mexico, Jamaica and Spain. He has also participated in numerous collective exhibitions and has created settings. Since 1995 he has been a member of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC). He has held more than a dozen personal exhibitions in Cuba, Spain, the United States, Panama, Mexico, England, Colombia and the Dominican Republic, and has participated in more than fifty collective exhibitions and numerous projects in Cuba and abroad. He has also participated in the creation of numerous collective murals. It is possible to find his works and illustrations in important publications of diverse editorials. He is a member of the "Martha Machado" Brigade (led by prominent Cuban artist Alexis Leyva (Kcho)), in which he has played a leading role in bringing art to the areas most affected by the passage of hurricanes in several regions of Cuba and the devastating earthquake in Haiti. On a personal level, the artist has exhibited at "KARMA, Pabellón Cuba, Havana (1986); at El Jardín de Rancaño, Karl Marx Theater, Havana (1994); La mano ciega, Galería IMAGO, Havana (1996); La carta que nunca te escribí (2011); La mitad de mi vida (2012). His works are in permanent collections in Panama, Mexico, Jamaica and Spain, including the personal collections of Sean Penn, Sting and Trudy Stayle, Joaquín Sabina, Silvio Rodríguez, Pablo Milanés, Alicia Alonso, Armando Amorin Soares, Liz von Habsturg, Judith Swift, Carlos di Biagio and Luciano Méndez. His work is also kept at the Ministry of Culture in Havana, the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana, the CIFO collection (Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation, USA), the Marlborough in Chelsea, the Che Guevara Museum, the UN headquarters and the Miraflores Palace in Caracas. Also, he has participated in numerous collective exhibitions and has created settings. Since 1995 he has been a member of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC). Some of his individual exhibitions are "Criterio Propio", ""Sombras del ayer"" or ""La lluvia de tu ventana"".
