As a painter he focused on landscape art and painted mainly subjects showing mountains, lakes and trees. Some of his paintings have kind of narrative character showing small men surrounded by the nature. 'Dachauer Moos', a region closed to Munich, was one of his favored motifs. It became famous at the beginning of the 20th century because of the artist colony in Dachau. The famous poet Rainer Maria Rilke made the following poem in 1898 „Heinrich von Reder, i mulini“ (The mills): „Du müde, morsche Mühle, / Dein Moosrad feiert Ruh, – / Aus der Olivenkühle / Schaut dir der Abend zu.
