As a painter he focused on landscape art and painted mainly subjects showing mountains, lakes and trees. Some of his paintings have kind of narrative character showing small men surrounded by the nature. 'Dachauer Moos', a region closed to Munich, was one of his favored motifs. It became famous at the beginning of the 20th century because of the artist colony in Dachau.
