      *Sir Richard Rees Bt (1900-1970) *Sir Richard Rees Bt (1900-1970) Self-portrait of the artist, Sir Richard Lodowick Edward Montagu Rees, 2nd Baronet, three-quarter length, in his studio oil on canvas 74 x 62cm Provenance: Lady du Cros, (Rosemary Rees), the artist's sister; Private collection, Suffolk. Exhibited: Eton College, Berkshire. Literature: Illustrated in 'A Theory of our Time' by Richard Rees, 1963. This is one of two known versions of this portrait, the other being in Trinity College Cambridge. The present painting is c.1950. Sir Richard Rees was editor of Adelphi Magazine, and literary executor of George Orwell. The character Ravelston in Orwell's 'Keep the Aspidistra Flying' was based on him. He was a friend of John Middleton Murry. Rees exhibited at the Royal Academy.
