Lilly Reich (1885-1947) The Berlin-born designer Lilly Reich is recorded especially for her cooperation with Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, which lasted more than ten years. In addition, she was the first woman on the Board of the German Werkbund. Reich trained first as an embroiderer, before she worked under the direction of Josef Hoffmann at the Wiener Werkstätte from 1908. In 1911, she returned to Berlin in order to devote herself to the design of furniture and fashion pieces. Even before the First World War, she was known to a wide audience. Around 1925, she met Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, with whom she created designs for interiors and exhibitions. In 1932, she was appointed director to the Department of building and weaving at the Bauhaus Dessau and later in Berlin by Mies van der Rohe. From 1939 until the end of World War II, she emigrated to Chicago along with Rohe. In the 1940s, Reich worked for the Hochschule der Bildenden Künste in Berlin for two years.
