Unexamined out of frame. 1932 The eventful life of Slovak-Jewish artist Frantisek Reichental (1895-1971) took him to many places including the Soviet Union, Germany, Hungary and France. In 1948 he settled in the United States. He is considered the most important Slovakian modern artist of the 1930’s.

        New York , Slovakia, Russian Federation,1895-1971 Modernist work depicting a woman holding a bird in a vibrant color palette. Reichental is regarded as one of the most influential Eastern European modern artists having painted and taught with Marc Chagall (1887-1985) from 1917 to 1919 after being a Russian POW for serving in the Austro-Hungarian army in 1916. Reichental experienced a prosperous career beginning in 1921 until World War II when his family became the victim of religious persecution traveling through Europe to escape the Nazi's. He finally arrived in the United States in 1950.
