                A very fine, heavy precision pocket watch with 52,5 min. carousel Movm. No. 1278, Dimensions 52 mm, circa 1882, Weight 123 g, Origin England Case: 18 K gold, case maker's punch mark "AW" and "FT" (Frederick Thoms). Dial: Enamel. Movm.: 2/3 plate movement, engraving: Kew "A" 81.5", English lever escapement, gold screw compensation balance, freesprung blued balance spring. The silversmith and watchmaking company Reid & Sons, which has been in existence for more than 240 years, was founded by Christian Ker Reid in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1788. It still operates today as part of the "Goldsmiths Group". The company's most notable commissions include the Football Association Challenge Cup, the Rugby League Trophy and a chronometer once carried by Ernest Shackleton on his exploratory voyages to Antarctica. Various Reid & Sons timepieces are in the collection of the Science Museum in London and in the collection of the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich in London.

                Manufactured 1869 to 1884, approximately 10,250 manufactured. This great little pocket defender packed a punch with a seven shot, single action revolving cylinder and its brass frame that was once silver plated acted as a pair of brass knuckles. Left side of frame was stamped "MY FRIEND PATD DEC. 26, 1865". Bottom frame safety, indexes each time until safety is set. Overall length 4-3/4" and height of 2-3/4", making for a handsome and easily concealable double weapon. CONDITION: Plating is gone and cylinder is now a silver patina.
