SU RENSHAN (1814-1850) China, 19th c. 113,5 x 41,5 cm Scholar Touching a Pine Tree. Ink on paper, mounted as hanging scroll. Inscription and signature by the artist: "Touching that lonely pine, soaring in the wind, frost and dew have fallen on it, how shouldn't this be as always. Inscribed by Renshan". Two seals of the artist: "Su Changchun", "Renshan". Old German private collection, by descent to a family member Su Renshan, personal name Changchun, was an eccentric genius painter from Shunde prefecture of Guangdong province. He was the son of an official and amateur painter and was intended to become an official too. But after failing the civil service examinations for three times he devoted his life to painting, his passion from early childhood. He developed a highly personal, linear style of landscapes and figures, with motifs often taken from woodblock-printed painting manuals. This painting is an example of an almost minimalistic style. Zwei Siegel des Künstlers: "Su Changchun", "Renshan". Alte deutsche Privatsammlung, durch Erbschaft an ein Familienmitglied Su Renshan, persönlicher Name Changchun, war ein exzentrisches Malergenie aus der Präfektur Shunde in der Provinz Guangdong. Er war der Sohn eines Beamten und eines Amateurmalers und sollte eigentlich auch Beamter werden. Nachdem er jedoch dreimal bei den Prüfungen für den öffentlichen Dienst durchgefallen war, widmete er sein Leben der Malerei, seiner Leidenschaft seit frühester Kindheit. Er entwickelte einen sehr persönlichen, linearen Stil von Landschaften und Figuren, deren Motive er oft aus im Holzschnitt gedruckten Malbüchern entnahm. Das vorliegende Gemälde ist ein Beispiel für einen fast minimalistischen Stil.
