      Unframed oil on stretched canvas painting, "Retrato de Magdalena Mondragon" (Portrait of Magdalena Mondragon), signed lower left Aurora Reyes (Aurora Reyes Flores, Mexican, 1908-1985), dated 1945, approx 36.75"h, 27.75"w, 5.25lbs **Note: Aurora Reyes Flores was the first female muralist in Mexico and proponent of Mexican muralism. She was classmates with Frida Kahlo at the Escuela Nacional Prepatoria, where they developed a life-long friendship. Her first solo exhibition was at the ARS Gallery in 1925. She created six murals in her lifetime, while also participating in collective exhibitions in France, Cuba, the United States, and Mexico. This painting is illustrated in "Aurora Reyes: Alma de montana," Margarita Aguilar Urban, 2010, Instituto Chihuahuense de la Cultura, p.122** **Provenance: From the estate of Ali A. Abssi (1934-2020) and Florence Hall Abssi (1919-2014), founders of the Ishtar Gate Gallery in the prestigious Houston Galleria. They were world travelers and dealers of eclectic art, jewelry, antiquities, and gems. Their friends, acquaintances, and customers included people from all continents, including sheiks, prime ministers, royals, business leaders, politicians, and oil magnates.
