Hunter Reynolds studied at the Otis-Parsons Art Institute in Los Angeles and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1984. Engaged as a visual artist and AIDS activist, he became a co-founder of Art Positive in 1989 and fought against homophobia and censorship in the arts. For over twenty years, he has been dealing with political, social and gender themes which he constantly reflects as a HIV-positive man living in the age of AIDS. His photographs, installations and performances are well-established in the art world and have repeatedly been presented in solo exhibitions, e.g. at White Columns in New York.

The Banquet was first performed at Thread Waxing Space New York in 1992, inspired by Meret Oppenheim’s Spring Feast, in which a banquet was presented on the body of a nude woman. Stathacos and Reynolds inverted the original event by substituting a nude man for the woman, confronting issues of male dominance throughout (art) history. (2) Patina du Prey's Memorial Dress. Cologne, Trinitatiskirche, 1994. Softcover, 21 x 13 cm, 50 pp. Essay by Roger Denson in English and German.         Hunter Reynolds (American, 1955-) Drag Pose Series Photographs C-Prints 25" x 19.5" (framed) Artist Bio Hunter Reynolds is a visual artist and AIDS activist, and he is a Visual AIDS artist member. He was a an early member of ACT UP, and in 1989 co-founded Art Positive, an affinity group of ACT-UP to fight homophobia and censorship in the arts. For over 25 years, Reynolds has been using performance, photography, and installations to express his experience as an HIV-positive gay man living in the age of AIDS. Reynolds’s works address issues of gender identity, political, social, and sexual histories, mourning and loss, survival, hope and healing. Some of his best-known performance projects are The Patina du Prey’s Memorial Dress, The Drag Pose Series, Blood Spot Series and Mummification Series. He has collaborated on major performance projects including The Banquet with Chrysanne Stathacos and I-Dea The Goddess with Maxine Heneryson. Since then he has been performing as Patina, dressed in voluminous robes and prepared with exquisite Japanese make-up, including a teardrop drawn under her right eye. With Patina du Prey and her memorial dresses, Hunter Reynolds has created a symbolic figure, which will hopefully prevent us from self-resignation, when considering HIV and AIDS. The present set of five C-prints belongs to the series 'Patina du Prey Drag Pose', created in 1990 in the course of Reynold's impressive cage performance at Simon Watson Gallery in New York. The C-prints are in very good condition. Each work is irreversibly matted and framed with white wooden frames. The image size is 48.3 x 34.3 cm, respectively. The overall framed dimensions of each work are 67 x 57 cm.
