Fils aîné de Samuel William Reynolds le Vieux, il étudie le portrait avec William Owen et expose à la Royal Academy et à la British Institution de 1820 à 1845 ; Plus tard il aide son père dans ses travaux puis, à la mort de ce dernier, il se met définitivement à la gravure.
