This was followed, in 1875, by a study visit to Brussels.In 1876, he finally found the means to make an extended stay in Paris, where he came into contact with the works of the Barbizon School. Thanks to the art dealer, Charles Sedelmeyer, who was originally from Vienna, he was able to meet Charles-Francois Daubigny, one of the group's last surviving members. More study trips followed, to Oldebroek, Dordrecht and Rotterdam in the Netherlands, and to Normandy. Rudolf Ribarz (1848-1904) Oil on panel Austria / Italy, 1872 This oil painting by the Austrian landscape painter Rudolf Ribarz (1848-1904) shows a young Italian woman with a tambourine. A sailing boat that has not yet been completed can be seen on the grass behind the woman. A little girl is also lying on the grass in a dreamy pose with the sea in the background. This small work was painted by the artist during a study trip in northern Italy in 1872. Rudolf Ribarz (1848-1904) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Albert Zimmerman and befriended Emil Jakob Schindler and Eugen Jettel there. He travelled to South Tyrol, Trentino and Venice between 1870 and 1872 as well as Brussels on a study visit in 1875. In 1876 Ribarz moved to Paris, where he was in contact with Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot and the Barbizon school. He travelled to and studied in Holland (Wezep, Dordrecht, Rotterdam) and Normandy. In 1892 he returned to Vienna and was offered to head the flower painting department at the Vienna Arts and Crafts School, despite his long absence. There, he first preferred the plain, introverted landscape painting of the French (Paysage intime) and later a more decorative form of landscapes. In 1900 he had to give up his position due a worsening nervous disorder. He then lived for almost 20 years in Paris. The composition of this painting illustrates the daily life of the bourgeoisie in the gardens of Versailles. The gallant scene depicts two ladies and a musician with violin on a stage close to the promenade of the park with an alley of tall trees as the background. The painting was created in the 1880s. The painting is signed lower left 'Ribarz'. Several former labels are verso on the stretcher. The canvas is doubled. The painting is in very good condition, there are only singular fine fissures in the paint layer, the varnish is somewhat yellowed and there are minimal framing marks. The frame shows small bumps at the corners. The stretcher measures 78.8 x 57 cm. The dimensions of the frame are 98.5 x 76.5 cm.
