Magnificent Memento of The Troubles "The Flying

    Est: €18,000 - €25,000

Magnificent Memento of The Troubles "The Flying Column" Ni Rinn (Brid) Sculptor. An original heavy bronze Maquette, 'The Flying Column,' circa 15" tall on a loose marble base, being the sculptors' design for a 1966 Competition to commemorate The War of Independence on a site in O'Connell Street, Dublin (the competition was later cancelled). * A unique copy cast in bronze from the original plaster Maquette, with a signed typescript statement from the sculptor explaining its origin and inspiration. 'The individual figures are types, not portraits ... The leader or captain of the group was not envisaged as anyone is particular, but it is easy to see the inspiration of Michael Collins...' Also with a selection of four pages of original sketches for the project by Brid Ni Rinn, one page inscribed and signed by her. A truly unique and historical item with supporting provenance. (1)
