      Lot of Five Figure Studies Each signed and identified "Ione Robinson..." l.l. Graphite on paper, sight sizes approximately 15 x 12 in. (38.0 x 30.4 cm), framed (one without glass). Condition: Not examined out of frames, one with damage. N.B. An exhibition booklet, Ione Robinson: Peintures, Dessins, Aquarelles, from the Musee de Chartres, 1977, accompanies the lot. The group is probably part of the group of drawings belonging to the artist, that are referenced on page 14.

      IONE ROBINSON

      Group of 5 drawings. Genocide Orphan * Woman of Cassino * Wounded Baby * Children During Bombardment * Black Market Children. Each pencil on cream wove paper, 1938-1945. Each signed, dated, and inscribed in pencil, lower margin. Various sizes and conditions. A very scarce group of this artist's work in Europe before and during World War II. Born in Portland, Oregon, Robinson studied at Otis Art Institiute in Los Angeles, and in Paris, 1927-29. From 1931-32 she worked with Diego Rivera on the murals in the Palacio Nacional in Mexico City. She later pursued an art career on the East Coast and assisted Rockwell Kent in illustrating Voltaire's Candide. Her last known painting, "La Familia," was purchased by the Museo de Arte Moderno in Mexico City (1993) where it is hung with a portrait of her by David Alfaro Siquieros (1931).
