Peter Robinson Marker mixed media on paper title

    Est: $2,500 - $4,500

Peter Robinson Marker mixed media on paper title inscribed and dated 1992 210mm x 290mm Peter Robinson is totally obsessed with what he likes to call mark making. More recently with painting's resurrection from the grave, this concept has become more widely discussed. Marker is a delightfully rough little brother of the Robinson family. It is an exploration of materials - employing his trademark oil stick with enamel, shellac and ink. It incorporates abstract tribal forms of the triangular tooth (seen also in Killeen's comb series), the repeated lozenge and varied line that resembles a sideways vision of Pe'a. Its title could refer to the aforementioned, suggesting a tool as the marker but it could also refer to the artist as marker, both as a mark maker and - historically speaking - as the marker of territory, the map-maker; tracer of events and the inscriber of humanity's significance in the universe. Peter Robinson is represented by Sue Crockford, Auckland; Peter McLeavey, Wellington and Brooke Gifford, Christchurch. IK
