    Ruth Robinson (American/Alabama, b. 1952)

    Est: $400 - $600

Ruth Robinson (American/Alabama, b. 1952), "Dinner Under the Big Tree", 2021, oil on panel, signed lower right, titled and dated en verso, 24 in. x 31 3/4 in., unframed Condition: Overall fair condition. Note: “When I paint fish, it's about Uncle Bud. When I paint cotton, it's about my papa, who was a sharecropper in Wilmer. When I paint about the school bus, that's my Mom. I paint about family, and I have a lot of stories to tell about my family." -Ruth Robinson Ruth Robinson grew up in Grand Bay, Alabama, where early in life she discovered a talent for painting. Unfortunately, a house fire in the 1960s destroyed her creations which led to her giving up painting for several decades before her passion was revived in the early 2000s. While initially a personal and private endeavor, Robinson was encouraged by her mother on her deathbed to start selling her works. Since then, Robinson’s paintings have been exhibited throughout the country and can be found in the American Folk Art Gallery in Asheville, the Kentuck Art Center in Northport, Alabama and in other private and public collections. Robinson’s works are deeply personal and often showcase daily scenes of her family life, much like the work on offer here entitled “Dinner Under the Big Tree” which features figures partaking in various scenes of leisure - conveying a world of harmony and familial contentment.
