Len Roemer Art for Sale at Auction

b. 1920 -

Roemer studied with Fairport native Carl Peters (1897-1980), a nationally renowned painter involved in the Public Works Arts (WPA) projects during the 1930?s. Roemer paints in the tradition of Peters, creating landscapes that blend together Realism and Impressionism. He paints boldly in a loose flowing style. His paintings have been described as ?Carl Peters on LSD,? because they use much more color and paint than Peters. Len Roemer shuttled between the East and West coasts as a shipyard machinist, aircraft draftsman, label maker, and finally a prototype builder for Kodak cameras and copiers. He remained at Kodak Park for 39 years. Roemer had deeply rooted artistic talent, however, he did not seriously start to paint until he was thirty. In 1950, he went to an art show of Carl Peters at the Rundel Library and knew right away that Petersâ?? style was right for him. He began instruction with him immediately for $5.00 a lesson and continued for the next three years. Roemer painted with Peters in Rochester, Rockport, ME and Gloucester, MA. Peters taught him to paint boldly, but with a loose flowing style. His nautical scenes of the New England states and images of the Bristol Hills, as well as Upstate New York barns and woodlands, were among many of his favorites. His array of work ranged from waterfront vistas to cityscapes. Len Roemer had several art exhibits in his later years. His work was shown at the Memorial Art Gallery, the Century Club and art galleries affiliated with Eastman Kodak.
