      According to the artists daughter, Mignon Roscher Gardner, this portrait is one a number of portraits commissioned by oil tycoon William Buckley for one of the Buckley mansions. He had six duaghters: Jane, Priscilla, Maureen, Patricia, Aloise and Carol. In addition to painting all of the Buckley children and in-laws, Roscher was sought after by European royals, religious figures and statesmen. His ouevre included portraits of Pope Pius X1, Pope Benedict XV, the king and queen of Bavaria, Queen Wilhelmina and Princess Juliana of the Netherlands, Eleanor Roosevelt and U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice Frederick Vinson. In 1981, William Doyle Galleries conducted a sale of the contents of one of the Buckley's 30 room mansions "Great Elm" located in Connecticut.
