    PORTRAIT EINES EDELMANNES AM SCHREIBPULT Öl auf Leinwand. Doubliert. 123 x 92 cm. Rechts unten signiert, ortsbezeichnet und datiert „Toby E. Rosenthal. San Francisco. 1875“. Ungerahmt. Halbportrait eines vornehmen Herren, der in einem Innenraum vor einem Sessel an seinem Pult einen Brief schreibt. Er trägt einen schwarzen, einreihig geknöpften Gehrock, darunter eine ebenfalls schwarze Weste und ein weißes Hemd mit Fliege. Seinen linken Ellenbogen hat er auf die Sessellehne abgestützt, sodass seine Hand, noch ein Brief haltend, im Vordergrund sichtbar ist. Große Aufmerksamkeit wurde von Rosenthal auf die Details gelegt: der Ehering, sowie die Taschenuhr, der Stift und die gesamte Qualität des Anzuges weisen auf den Status des Herren hin. Er hat ein feines, ruhiges Gesicht, helle Haut und mit seinen braunen, glänzenden Augen schaut er aufmerksam aus dem Gemälde heraus. Würdevolle, repräsentative Darstellung. (1391361) (3) (19)
