      Est: €1 - €500

Etching on paper Germany, second half of the 19th Century Helene Roß (1827-1911) – German artist, married to Charles Roß Marked and signed in the plate: “C. Roß”, “Helene Roß” Dedication to „Meinen lieben Vater Dr. August Abendroth 6 Oct 1861“ Measurements: max. 45 x 53 cm Estimate by Auctionata Expert: 500 EUR These three etchings were made by Helene Roß around the middle of the 19υth Century. The designs however are taken from paintings by her husband Charles Roß. Two of the etchings depict the view on Corfu from a wooded area, whilst the other shows a lake in the woods. The latter is inscribed with a dedication to her father, that reads: “Meinen lieben Vater Dr. August Abendroth 6 Oct 1861“ (“My lovely father Dr. August Abendroth 6υth Oct 1861”). These are three fine etchings combining the skill of this talented couple. The engravings show some creases, folds and foxing. Two of the etchings are applied on the embossed paper. Partly hand signed and titled and partly signed on the plate. The overall dimensions of the largest sheet are 45 x 53 cm. Helene Roß (1827-1911) Helene Roß was born in Hamburg in 1827 under the name Helene Abendroth. She studied drawing under Charles Roth who she later married in 1847. The couple worked together to the extent that on his death bed she completed his last ever painting under his instructions. She died in 1911.
