      DESCRIPTION: Germaine Rouget Cheruy (France, 1896 - 1980). Etching. Street scene in France. Signed and numbered "Ger-Cheruy 14/40" to lower right. Visible plate mark. In wood frame. Germaine Rouget Cheruy was the youngest person to be elected to the French Salon. She served as head of costume design for the Theatre du Vieux-Colombier under Jacques Copeau. In 1924, Cheruy moved to America with her husband, Rene Cheruy, who had taken a position as head of the French Department at Loomis School in Conneticut. Rene was a soldier, educator and also an artist. He served as secretary to French sculptor, Auguste Rodin. In 1940s, the Cheruy's purchased a home in Arizona where they hosted salons, receptions and other artists and writers. MEASURMENTS: 9-1/4" high x 7" wide. 17-1/4" high x 13-5/8" wide overall with frame. CONDITION: No defects noted. IMPORTANT: Before bidding, please read the terms and conditions.
