        James Rouse Senior, British, 1802-1888 A painted porcelain plaque with fruit and a ewer on a ledge, signed to the bottom left, J Rouse Snr, 24 x 20cmNote: James Rouse was born in 1802, the son of William Rouse and Sarah Hallam. He started his career as an apprentice flower painter at the Derby factory in Nottingham Road in 1815. Rouse left the Nottingham Road factory in about 1830 and worked in the Potteries and at Coalport for several years, before returning to work for Royal Crown Derby in 1875 at the King Street Factory, Derby. In 1882 he moved to the Osmaston Road factory. He died in 1888, aged 87.
