Measurements: 80 x 72 cm; 88 x 80 cm (frame). The relationships of couples are treated by Gino Rubert with irony, who composes scenes full of a playful eroticism, but behind the apparent naivety there are always disturbing enigmas. In the female embrace, the woman sometimes sprouts more arms than necessary, reminiscent of Hindu goddesses or dangerous, enveloping creatures. Interested in personal and sentimental complexities, he explores romance and relationships in contemporary society, delving into love, sex and the couple. Rubert's canvases often possess different layers of meaning. A Mexican painter based in Barcelona, where he combines his artistic practice with teaching at the Eina and Massana schools, Gino Rubert studied fine art at the Parsons School in New York. He has held exhibitions all over the world, and is represented in the collections of L'Oréal, Arte Contemporáneo de Pamplona, Testimoni de La Caixa, Banco de España, Honda, Caja Madrid, Giuseppe Castiglioni, Academia de España en Roma, Academia de San Fernando, Fundación Antoni Vila Cases, Gregory Fowler, Delvaux Collection, the Shering Museum in Spanbroek, the Steinkamp Collection and many others.
