      Hilda Rubin Pierce (Austrian/American, b. 1923) oil on canvas expressionist painting depicting women at a street market. Signed "Hilda Rubin" lower right and housed in a plain wood frame. Sight: 30" H x 23 1/2" W. Frame: 31 1/2" H x 25" W. Biography: Hilda Rubin Pierce was born in Vienna and fled with her family to England in 1938, when Hitler took over Austria. She later moved to Chicago and was described, in a 1958 Chicago Tribune article as a "young Chicago artist of great promise." She studied with expressionist artist Oskar Kokoschka, exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, and taught art. She later moved out West, settled in California and wrote a memoir titled, "Hilda: a True Story of Terror, Tears, and Triumph." PROVENANCE: The collection of Sheila Eckenberg, by descent from her aunt, Doris Cox, of Chicago.

      Hilda Rubin Pierce (Austrian/American, 1923-?) oil on board panoramic painting depicting the Chicago skyline as viewed from Lake Michigan, circa 1960, with ships docked in the foreground. Signed "Hilda Rubin" lower right and housed in a natural molded wood grain frame. Sight - 40 1/2"W x 20 1/2"H. Frame - 45"W x 25"H. Note: a similar panoramic view of Chicago (this one depicting the river through downtown) by Rubin is in the collection of the Skokie Public Library in Skokie, Illinois.
