Nick Ruggieri (Pennsylvania, 1908 - 1996)
Nick Ruggieri was a Pennsylvania artist who worked his entire life in Harrisburg, Pa. He was art director for the local Harrisburg newspaper. In 1964 he was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts in London, England.
Born in Viesta, Italy. Immigrated as young man. Graduated from William Penn HS in Harrisburg. Studied art at Art Students League in NYC; then went to Florence Italy in 1939 for more study.
Acclaimed midstate artist. Art Director of Patriot News from 1941-1980, created editorial and advertising art. Taught watercolor classes.
Created paintings and sketches from all 67 PA counties. His works were debuted in 1975 and went on road in trailer chartered by newspaper publisher. Freedom Foundation presented him with George Washington Medal. Member of Royal Society of Arts in Great Britain, Art Assoc of Harrisburg, Exchange Club of Harrisburg, Friends of the William Penn Museum, Harrisburg Camera Club and St Theresa RCC in New Cumberland.
