Nick Ruggieri was a Pennsylvania artist who worked his entire life in Harrisburg, Pa. He was art director for the local Harrisburg newspaper. In 1964 he was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts in London, England.
Born in Viesta, Italy. Immigrated as young man. Graduated from William Penn HS in Harrisburg. Studied art at Art Students League in NYC; then went to Florence Italy in 1939 for more study.
Acclaimed midstate artist. Art Director of Patriot News from 1941-1980, created editorial and advertising art. Taught watercolor classes.
Created paintings and sketches from all 67 PA counties. His works were debuted in 1975 and went on road in trailer chartered by newspaper publisher. Freedom Foundation presented him with George Washington Medal. Member of Royal Society of Arts in Great Britain, Art Assoc of Harrisburg, Exchange Club of Harrisburg, Friends of the William Penn Museum, Harrisburg Camera Club and St Theresa RCC in New Cumberland.

He was art director for the local Harrisburg newspaper. In 1964 he was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts in London, England. Born in Viesta, Italy. Immigrated as young man. Graduated from William Penn HS in Harrisburg. Studied art at Art Students League in NYC; then went to Florence Italy in 1939 for more study. Acclaimed midstate artist. Art Director of Patriot News from 1941-1980, created editorial and advertising art. Taught watercolor classes. Created paintings and sketches from all 67 PA counties. His works were debuted in 1975 and went on road in trailer chartered by newspaper publisher. Freedom Foundation presented him with George Washington Medal.         DESCRIPTION: Nick Ruggieri (Pennsylvania, 1908-1996). Watercolor on paper. Painting depicts North Third Street in Harrisburg during the first snow of the season as noted by label to reverse. Signed upon the lower right in pencil. Ruggieri was an Italian immigrant who served as the art director of the Patriot News from 1941 to 1980, while painting at night. His works are in the permanent collection at the State Museum of Pennsylvania. Image housed under glass in frame with double mat. MEASUREMENTS: 18-7/8" x 12-7/8". Overall with frame and mat: 26-3/8" x 20-3/8". CONDITION: Minor toning. Wear to frame and mat.

        DESCRIPTION: Nick T. Ruggieri (American,1908-1996). Two watercolors. One depicting a foggy riverscape. The other depicting a foggy valley of trees. Each signed in lower right corner "Nick Ruggieri". Each under matting, unframed. Ruggieri studied at the Art Students League in New York and received his masters at the Academy in Italy. He lived in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania and served as art director for the Patriot News from 1941 to 1980. His work is in permanent collections at the William Penn Memorial Museum, the Pangborn Corporation, Elizabethtown College, and others. MEASUREMENTS: Riverscape 14-1/4" x 19-3/4".
