      Est: €2,000 - €2,500

ENRIQUE RUMOROSO VALDÉS (Cádiz, around 1878-1895). "Still lifes". Oil on panel (x2). With period frames. Signed and located (Madrid) in the lower right area. Measurements: 50 x 29 cm (x2); 69 x 49 cm (frames, x2). 19th century Cadiz painter specialising in genre painting. His work is little known. However, Enrique Rumoroso y Valdés was one of the Cadiz artists who travelled the most during the 19th century, reaching cities such as Cádiz, Seville, Madrid and Paris, among many others. In his genre paintings he usually portrayed the atmosphere of the fairs and bullfighting scenes, always populated by popular types. In his pictorial technique we can appreciate a great mastery in the painting of still lifes of fruit, as is the case here, landscapes and portraits. Rumoroso was noted for his marked realism when depicting fruit. His short, vibrant brushstrokes and extremely precise drawing give his still lifes a naturalistic character, as can be seen in this pair of oil paintings. His way of presenting the grapes is very characteristic, as is his use of other larger round fruits such as peaches, apricots, figs or apples. The background in complete darkness contrasts with a light that extends over the main scene from the upper left corner, and allows the forms to stand out to give them greater emphasis and realism.
