        A KERR & BINNS WORCESTER PORCELAIN HANDLED PLATE Dated 1857, the decoration by Josiah Rushton Circular with a pair of upturned loop handles extending from beneath the raised sides, white ground with gilt borders, the centre plain, the border decorated with scrolling foliage between opposed gilt-framed portraits of Raphael and van Dyck to the front and rear and smaller gilt-framed Classical masks to the sides, signed by Rushton with conjoined initials underside within the printed red shield factory mark 28cm wide across the handles PROVENANCE: Charles Wentworth Wass (1822-1905), according to the fragmentary note to him from Richard William Binns pasted to the underside OTHER NOTES: Binns's letter preserved in three fragments to the underside, dated 6 July, 1897 from Diglis House, Worcester, reads: 'Dear Mr Wass The patera you allude to was painted by Josiah Rushton a pupil / of Bott's and a charming figure painter / he left us many years ago to take / up portrait painting in oils. I remain / yours faithfully / RW Binns' Charles Wass, an engraver and art dealer, was a keen collector of fine porcelain with particular interest in collecting specimens from important and notable services. As with the present lot, he preserved details of provenance and related information with labels stuck to undersides.

        A PAIR OF ROYAL WORCESTER PORCELAIN VASES Dated 1863, the decoration attributed to Josiah Rushton Of baluster shape on a circular foot, the pair of handles to the shoulders each modelled as a seated putto on a bracket, pink-glazed with gilt and turquoise details, each body with four gilt-framed reserves, those to the front decorated respectively with a Classical merman and a mermaid amidst reeds, those to the reverse with a dragon in water, the other reserves foliate, both with a printed factory mark with date underside 29cm high OTHER NOTES: Similarities between the style and execution of the decoration of these vases and signed examples by Josiah Rushton support the attribution

        A KERR & BINNS WORCESTER PORCELAIN VASE Dated 1862, decorated by Josiah Rushton and James and Thomas Scott Callowhill Of flattened baluster shape on a square foot with a pair of bronze-painted Classical busts to the shoulders, the neck, foot, and relief details in pink, green, and gold, the front modelled in low relief with strapwork and foliage and an angel-crested double frame enclosing portraits of Francesco I de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany, and his wife Bianca Cappello by Rushton, the reverse similarly modelled, its frame enclosing the initials of the portrait subjects flanking a roundel decorated with a crest, printed red shield factory mark with date underside together with a monogram device of the three decorators' initials conjoined 21.5cm high OTHER NOTES: The attribution of the portraits to Rushton has previously been confirmed by Henry Sandon.

        A ROYAL WORCESTER PORCELAIN MATCHED PART TEA SERVICE Mid-1870-mid-1880s, the decoration attributed to Josiah Rushton and David Bates A tea pot, cream jug, small cup, and two small plates or dishes, all of delicate proportions, the vessels each standing on three gilt paw feet, all white ground with jewelled borders throughout, the pot decorated each side with a gilt-framed portrait of a young woman surrounded by garlands and swags of flowers, the other pieces conformingly decorated, each with one portrait, one of the plates signed by Rushton with conjoined initials underside, all but the cup with printed factory marks underside, mostly rubbed and with date codes lost but the unsigned plate dated 1885 The teapot 14cm high, the plates 14cm diameter
