CARLOS SALAS (Barcelona, 1728-Zaragoza, 1780). "Justice". Sketch for the marble group in the chapel of Santa Tecla in Tarragona Cathedral, ca. 1760-1770. Ceramic. Presents restorations. Measurements: 69 x 35 x 25 cm. Neoclassical ceramic sculpture representing the allegory of justice. It is the sketch for the marble group in the chapel of Santa Tecla in the cathedral of Tarragona. The impact of historicism on the religious arts was particularly important, as the religiosity of the past was considered to be higher and purer, more authentic, and its plastic expressions of greater spiritual content. Carlos Salas was a Spanish sculptor who worked in Saragossa, as Ventura Rodríguez commissioned him as the principal chief of the works of the Santa Capilla de Nuestra Señora del Pilar around 1760. He also worked on the cathedral of Huesca and on the royal pantheon of the Monastery of San Juan de la Peña.
