      MARAT SAMSONOV (1925-2013). Untitled, 1975. Oil on hardboard. Signed and dated in the lower right corner. Signed on the back. Size: 69,5 x 48,5 cm; 86 x 65 cm (frame). The son of a Red Army commander who died fighting in the battle of Leningrad, Samsonov duly became a professional soldier. However, his artistic dream would also come true, and he would eventually become a member of the Academy of Arts, as well as receiving the title of People's Artist of Russia. In addition to his involvement in panoramas and dioramas of Borodino and Stalingrad, his work traced conflicts of the second half of the 20th century, including the war in Vietnam and the Soviet involvement in Afghanistan.
