He studied at the Hornsey College of Art from 1935 - 1939, and again from 1945, under Russell Reeve and John Moody. His work embodies the bold and urgent style of the German Expressionists, and takes influences most notably from the landscapes of France, Italy and Spain. His work has been exhibited widely in solo and group shows throughout the UK and internationally, with his work being included in the permanent collection of the Ben Uri Society. He is quoted as saying he is "striving, through my figurative art, to say something about the timelessness of the human condition".
