      (1824 Wien - 1883 ebenda) Kinder beim Blinde Kuh-Spiel im Stall Fein gemaltes, realistisches Genrebild mit ländlicher Szene. Schams studierte 1837-1840 an der Akademie in Wien, außerdem 1846/47 an der Kunstakademie der Vereinigung patriotischer Kunstfreunde in Prag. Zurückgekehrt nach Wien, wurde er in den Jahren danach Privatschüler von Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller, der ihn nachhaltig prägte. Seit 1861 war Schams Mitglied der Genossenschaft der bildenden Künstler Wiens (später Wiener Künstlerhaus). In den 1860er Jahren wandte er sich verstärkt der Genremalerei zu, wobei er kleine, humoristische Szenen aus dem Alltag bevorzugte. Schams gehörte jener Generation von Wiener Malern an, welche in der Ideenwelt des Biedermeier aufwuchsen und diese bis gegen Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts weitertrugen. Öl/Eichenholztafel.       FRANZ SCHAMS (AUSTRIAN 1823-1883) The Tailor oil on canvas 69 x 86 cm (27 x 34 in.) signed lower right CONDITION Observed out of the frame, the painting is in excellent condition. The canvas is relined. Some minor scuffing at perimeter, obscured by the frame rabbet. Inspection under UV shows scattered retouching to overall less than 5% of the painting, namely: at the perimeter, two lines the lower left of the tailor's work bench (larger 30 cm long), below the young boy to the lower right (0.7 cm long) N.B. All lots are sold in as-is condition at the time of sale.
