According to New York State Court Records and Social Security Records Erna S. Scharff was born Erna Kuhn in Landau Germany on September 9, 1895 and died in Brooklyn, New York on March 1, 1982. She fled Nazi Germany and came to the United States in 1938/1939 with her husband Alfred (1890-1969) and her son Richard (1926-2005). According to a business card her studio was listed at 1290 Ocean Ave, Apt #5C, Brooklyn, NY. She was well known for oil landscapes in a her Germanic distinctive style. Signed by the artist in lower left of canvas. Housed in a gold gilt gesso wood frame. 30" H x 42" W.

According to a business card her studio was listed in Brooklyn, New York. She was known primarily for oil landscapes in a very Germanic style. MEASUREMENTS: 35-1/2" x 23-1/2". Overall with frame: 41-3/4" x 29-3/4". CONDITION: Puncture to top center. Minor wear to surface consistent with handling and age including toning.
