    • Original Oil Painting of a City by Jacques Schedler, 1960
      Aug. 23, 2013

Original Oil Painting of a City by Jacques Schedler, 1960

      Est: €320 - €400

Oil on wood (hardboard) Jacques Schedler (1927-1989) - Swiss painter and illustrator Hand signed and dated "J Schedler 60" Modern and unusual white wooden frame Very good condition Paintings by Jacques Schedler fetch up to 1.400,- euros in international auctions Overall Dimensions: 75.8 x 52.2 cm This expressionistic oil painting by Jacques Schedler shows in strong brush strokes a view of a city. Two people are walking on the left side right towards the beholder, behind them rises the city's skyline. Cranes and houses are partially framed with bold black lines and partially standing alone without a frame. Black, blue and orange form the colour range for the buildings. Green and greyish toned dominate the fore- and the background, maybe indicating grass and a grey sky. The powerful brushwork and the impasto colour application make this painting a strong and powerful work. The oil painting is in a very good condition, the frame shows slight traces of age and has lost colour and has a fissure formation. Dimensions: 75.8 x 52.2 cm (frame); the size of the image is 71.5 x 48 cm. Jacques Schedler (1927-1989) Jacques Schedler grew up in Bürglen in Switzerland and visited the Decorative Arts School in St. Gallen while being an apprentice in an industrial painting workshop. He went to Paris after his studies where he managed to study at the Académie Julienne and the Grande Chaumière. He was strongly influenced by Fernand Léger and Georges Braque and turned towards cubism in his paintings. He has always been interested in working with the figurative and the representational. Though he is most famous for his oil paintings he has also worked as a caricaturist and illustrator and designed glass windows for several Swiss churches.
