Jahrhunderts (berieben, mit Schabspuren) mit goldgeprägtem RTitel. (Paris, Gihaut, 1829). -- Schöne Biedermeier-Interieurszenen des heute kaum mehr bekannten Genfer Künstlers Jean-Gabriel Scheffer (1797-1876), jeweils mit französischem Dialogtext. – Papierbedingt gleichmäßig schwach gebräunt, sonst wohlerhalten.

        Ce qu'on dit et ce qu'on pense is a colored lithograph realized by Jean Gabriel Scheffer (1797-1876). This original print, representing a satirical scene, has inscriptions on plate on the lower margin: "I. Scheffer / I. Lith. de Gihaut frères éditeurs". At the center on the lower margin is reported the title and an amusing capture. In excellent conditions, except for some minor stains on the margins. This defect does not affect the image. A cream-colored cardboard passepartout is included. 24.3 x 30.8 (foglio), 26 x 35 (passepartout)

        the set of 36 hand-coloured lithographed plates, lithographed by Villain after Scheffer, most signed "J.S." in plate and with small embossed stamp in lower margin and with publisher's name supplied in manuscript, [Not in Colas], [Paris], Martinet, [1824] § Wattier (Émile) Echelle Conjugale, 2 parts [Les Illusions; Les Réalités] (Echelon Ascendant; Echelon Descendant), the set of 16 hand-coloured lithographed plates, lithographed by G.Engelmann after Wattier, [Paris], Sazerac et Duval, [1824], together 2 works in 1 vol., all mounted on stubs, some a little browned or foxed, a few lightly water-stained, later half morocco, uncut, a little rubbed, [Not in Colas], 4to Collection of satires of Parisian society by the Swiss Jean-Gabriel Scheffer (1797-1876) and French Émile Wattier (1800-1868), both genre painters and lithographers. Both suites are rare with only a few copies (or parts of) sold at auction. There are only 2 known complete copies of the Scheffer suite (Yale & Leiden); these plates are on un-watermarked paper and with the imprint supplied by hand. The Wattier suite cynically depicts the hopes and aspirations of marriage to the trials and tribulations, beginning with 'Le Ravissement' and ending with 'La Séparation'.

Total numbers of plates differ between copies, these plates are on un-watermarked paper and all but 2 are without an imprint (those have the imprint added by hand).
