      Scherer, K. (1920-1993). (Paris by night). Lot of 46 vintage gelatin silver prints, various sizes (mostly 30x24,3 cm.), ±1950-1960, all w. photographer's stamp and encircled "P" (the latter stamped in red) on verso, kept in contemp. folder with the photographer's stamp on both wrappers. - Apart from a few folded corners, in fine condition. = A rich array of photographs, but mainly centering around nightly entertainment in Paris. Thematically the collection can be divided into roughly the following sections: views of Paris and its monuments (10x), scenes at the Folies Bergère and Le Moulin Rouge (16x); street life and café scenes and portraits (16x) and wrestling matches (4x). A few of the photographs were included in the book K. SCHERER a.o., Het Parijs in de vijftiger jaren (publ. Baarn, 1998). Scherer's photographs show Paris in its typical 1950s character of on the one hand nightlife as it was enjoyed in clubs and bars by their customers, and on the other hand several of the photographs show the life behind the scenes too. In contrast to the hustle and bustle of the streets and clubs, the photographs of Parisian monuments have a pleasant calmness. The street life and café scenes contain a few remarkable portraits, some of which remind one of Ed van der Elsken's Een liefdesgeschiedenis in Saint Germain des Prés. This lot is subject to 4% resale royalties ('droit de suite') over the total amount of hammerprice and buyer's premium. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE LXVI.
