Joy Scherger Art for Sale at Auction

Born and educated in Melbourne, Joy Scherger began her artistic career at the age of thirteen, when she was awarded a three year scholarship to a commercial art school.

This started her lifelong fascination with what she calls “the art of communication”, believing that “art at its best tells a story”.

Attending life drawing classes at the Victorian Art Gallery and studying architectural drawing at the Melbourne Technical College Joy developed an appreciation of classic art and attention to detail that has stayed with her ever since. Yet, as shown by her current exhibition, she is not restricted to any one subject and has developed her own artistic style.

Her paintings have been exhibited at galleries in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, and many regional centres. These paintings have attracted the attention of publishing companies and manufacturers who have used copies of Joy’s paintings in a range of commercial applications, including book illustrations, greeting cards, poster-prints and limited edition porcelain products.

In New York, McGraw Graphics have catalogued prints of Joy’s paintings, and others have been shown at the Jacob Javits Centre print exhibition. In Pittsburgh the Hunt Institute commissioned Joy to paint a botanical flower study for their archives.

Joy’s artwork has also found its way into many private collections around the world including the USA, Canada, England, Japan and Sweden.

For several years Joy and her partner Ray Joliffe operated their own gallery displaying only Joy’s work in Mildura. During this period she was also kept busy with many portrait commissions.

Now living in Queensland, Joy works from her art studio in Beenleigh.
