It depicts a magician performing one of his showpieces. The German painter has always been fascinated by the world of magicians, gypsies and showmen. Her works often depict the hands of a magician during his tricks. Schmidt-Panknin is known for combining various techniques and artistic means in order to create unique works of art The work is in very good condition with minimal waves. It is signed upper right ‘GS Panknin’ and lower right titled ‘Congratulations to Mr. Cox’. The cardboard is titled, dated and signed in pencil on the reverse Glückwunsch für Mr. Cox‘ / Mischtechnik / Juli 89 / Gerda Schmidt-Panknin“. The frame shows light signs of use. Framed the work measures 69.5 x 82 cm, the sheet measures 56.5 x 68 cm. (tfa) Gerda Schmidt-Panknin (b. 1920) Gerda Schmidt-Panknin studied at the Nordic Art School in Bremen and later joined the ‘Baukreis’. She had a position as an art teacher for a while but has been working as a freelance artist since 1977. Since the 1950s, she has been inspired by the magical world of the circus and fairgrounds. Moreover her travels inspired numerous works. The focus of her oeuvre is mostly on painting, even though Schmidt-Panknin often combines different materials and techniques. Today the artist lives and works in Kappeln, Schleswig-Holstein. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
