An elaborate motif with floral elements in green, blue and orange adorns the flat saucers. They are each dated '1919' within the painting. The two cups with floral handles boast the same revolving decoration. They are not centered but positioned slightly asymmetrically on their respective saucer. All pieces are marked on the base with the underglaze blue scepter mark and the painter's monogram. They are in good condition with signs of age and wear. The painting shows some losses here and there. The diameter of the saucers is 16 cm, the cups are each 4.5 cm high. Theo Schmuz-Baudiss (1859-1942) Theo Schmuz-Baudiss first attended the Royal School of Applied Arts in Munich and later the Academy of Fine Arts. He initially worked as a painter and regularly exhibited his works at the Glaspalast in Munich. Influenced by the new tendencies of the early 20th century, he eventually turned to arts and crafts, creating ceramics, furniture and illustrations. In 1902 he was hired as a designer by the Royal Porcelain Manufactory Berlin, where he later served as artistic director until his retirement. As a designer Schmuz-Baudiss devoted himself completely to the Art Nouveau. His works are characterized by plain, bold forms mainly with imaginatively designed handles or decorations in vibrant colors. His creations are in numerous private collections and museums, including the Bröhan-Museum Berlin, the Porzellanikon Selb and the Hetjens-Museum Dusseldorf. Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin The Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin is one of the oldest and most famous porcelain manufacturers in the world. It was founded by Frederick the Great in 1763, after there had already been several attempts to bring the production of the 'white gold' to Berlin. In 1871 the company moved to its current location near the Tiergarten. During the 19th century KMP was a leading manufacturer of porcelains with fine veduta painting. In addition to extravagantly painted vases a myriad of table sets and figurative porcelain has been produced over the years. To this today all porcelain is crafted almost entirely by hand and adorned with hand-painted decorations. The style-defining KPM designs can be found in the collections of many major museums.
