(57.5 x 65.1cm) Provenance Private Collection, New York. Lot Essay Carolee Schneemann (1939-2019), primarily known for her groundbreaking performance art and feminist contributions, also produced colorful and abstract paintings throughout her career. These paintings often feature bold, vibrant colors, dynamic brushwork, and an intense emotional depth that transcends the canvas, and demonstrate her versatility and mastery of various artistic mediums.  In her abstract paintings, Schneemann displayed an innate ability to convey complex emotions and inner states through her use of color and form. Her works, such as Palliation II (Armenian), exhibit a visceral and spontaneous quality, with gestural brushstrokes and a rich palette that evoke a sense of unbridled energy and passion. These paintings not only serve as a compelling testament to her artistic range but also provide a unique perspective on the inner workings of an artist who consistently pushed the boundaries of art, challenging conventions, and embracing her own creative evolution.
