Dieses beeindruckende Panorama von Johann Caspar Schneider zeigt einen Blick auf den Zusammenfluss von Rhein und Main, mit Blick nach Osten auf das Dorf Kostheim in mittlerer Entfernung links, die Gustavsburg rechts und die Stadt Hochheim auf dem darüber liegenden, leicht idealisierten Hügel. Im linken unteren Bildvordergrund hat Schneider einige Häuser eines Mainzer Eckviertels sowie einen Teil der Mainzer Stadtbefestigung eingefügt. Zahlreiche Figuren bevölkern den Vordergrund, darunter eine elegante, flanierende Familie, mehrere Wäscherinnen und Dorfbewohner, die dem Leben in der Stadt nachgehen. Der Mainzer Landschaftsmaler Johann Caspar Schneider spezialisierte sich auf Ansichten in der Nähe seiner Heimatstadt entlang des Rheins und des Mains und erntete Lob von Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749–1832), der die Region 1814 besuchte. Dieses mit * (Asterisk) bezeichnete Objekte ist vollumfänglich mehrwertsteuerpflichtig, d. h. bei diesen Objekten wird die MWST auf den Zuschlagspreis plus Aufgeld berechnet. Johann Caspar Schneider, Two Rhenish Landscapes

Signed and dated lower center: C. Schneider. 1820Johann Caspar Schneider's long artistic career (he was born in 1753 and died in 1839) was closely tied to his hometown of Mainz, and to the tumultuous events of his era. He trained at the Court of the Archbishop of Mainz, and soon became a well-respected landscape and portrait painter. He gained both aristocratic and bourgeoisie patrons, and was particularly well-known for his depictions of local landscapes. War and political upheaval forced him to flee from Mainz for some time, but he returned for good in 1797. These two paintings belong in the artist's later period and are dated to 1820, but build on the 18th century tradition of the Arcadian landscape.
