  • Schneider, Ernst: Portrait of an actress
    Jun. 14, 2023

Schneider, Ernst: Portrait of an actress

    Est: €500 - €750

Portrait of an actress. Circa 1930. Vintage Jos-Pe process print. 27 x 22 cm. Mounted to original cream card, photographer's blindstamp in lower left on mount; photographer's Schneider-Vobach Farben-Photographie G.m.b.H, Berlin NW 7, Unter den Linden 62/63 on mount verso. -- -- The Jos-Pe process (also known as the Vobach process) was an early process for producing color photographs on gelatin paper like the one offered here. It was patented by Schneider-Vobach Farben-Photographie GmbH in 1922 and only a few copies were produced in Berlin. Using a beam splitter camera, three color separation negatives are produced in a single exposure, on the basis of which three relief images are printed in yellow, magenta and cyan. These negatives, which are provided with the above-mentioned colors, are pressed exactly on top of each other onto a gelatin paper, which "absorbs" the colors. All three colors are thus embedded in the gelatin layer, in contrast to the Carbro process, in which the relief images themselves are transferred and thus exist as three superimposed, often flaking layers. – A vibrant print in near excellent condition. – With: Ernst Schneider. Interior study. Circa 1930. Vintage Jos-Pe process print. 27,5 x 22,5 cm. Mounted to original cream card. - In very good condition. -- -- Lit.: Gerd Koshofer. Farb Fotografie, Munich 1981, Vol. 1, p. 95 (Jos-Pe process), p. 136 (Vobach process), p. 138/139 (Schneider-Vobach Farb-Photographie GmbH); Koshofer vol. 3: p. 22 (absorption process), p. 78 (Jos-Pe process), p. 136 (Vobach process). -- - Sollten Sie detailliertere Zustandsberichte wünschen, kontaktieren Sie uns bitte. / Should you need more detailed condition reports, please contact us.
