Condition as viewed under room light in the unopened frame: a couple of scratches in the watercolor in the lower right, some browning of the paper, some spotting; framing is as is. Weight: 10.8 lbs.

      DESCRIPTION: William G. Schnelle (American 1897-1956). Oil on canvas. Scene of a red-clad, seated woman in an interior space. In wood and gesso frame. Schnelle was a graduate of Pratt Institute General Art Course, 1919; Student at the Art Student's League of New York; studied painting under Henry B. Snell. He taught illustration, figure and poster work since March 5, 1923 in New York City High Schools. Schnelle exhibited at the New York Water Color Club, American Water Color Society, National Art's Club, and the Albany Institute of History and Art. MEASUREMENTS: 16" x 19-3/4". Overall with frame 22" x 25-3/4" CONDITION: Discoloration due to age and poor storage conditions. Fragile canvas cloth around edges. Indentation in lower right corner of the canvas from heavy weight during storage. Minor damage to the detailing of the frame. Chipping to edges of painting.

      American, b.1897 SUMMER MORNING, RENSSELAERVILLE, NEW YORK Signed William G. Schnelle (ll), titled on an old label affixed to the stretcher Oil on canvas 16 1/4 x 20 inches Unframed Dirty varnish. Frame rubbing. Few surface scratches in the upper left corner (no larger than 3 inches). Partially visible stretcher lines. Dent in canvas from the front at the lower right corner. 2 inch scratch from nail at upper center edge. 1cm area where paint is flaking, in the lower right center. May be some areas of inpainting in the sky (3 inch area upper center edge; 1cm spot in the upper left of sky). No other apparent restoration.
