      DESCRIPTION: Maya Schock (Japanese/American, 1928-1975). Large acrylic on canvas. "Yin-Yang- No. 20" labeled and signed "YIN-YANG NO. 20, ACRYLIC & COLLAGE, HOMAGE TO J. M. H. Md. SEPT. 9, 1975, MAYA SCHOCK, WITH MUCH LOVE AND GRATITUDE." In wood frame. Gifted to the consignor by the artist. Maya Schock studied both dance and acting in her native Japan. After marrying American Floyd Schock and moving to Central Pennsylvania, she studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Maya converted the building at Second and Reily Streets in Harrisburg into the DOSHI Gallery for Contemporary Art and Japanese tea shop in 1972. There, Maya exhibited and advocated for the work of contemporary Pennsylvania artists until her death in 1975. (From the Susquehanna Art Museum, Harrisburg PA, website www.susquehannaartmuseum.org).       DESCRIPTION: Maya Schock (Japanese/American, 1928-1975). Acrylic collage on canvas "Yin-Yang No. 8." Signed on back "MAYA SCHOCK YIN-YANG NO. 8 JULY 1974". Wooden frame.
