    Est: $700 - $1,000

TORSTEN SCHÖNBERG (1882-1970) SVENSKA SPELEN. 1916. 40 1/2x30 inches, 103x76 1/4 cm. Centraltryckeriet, Stockholm. Condition A- / B+: creases in margins and image; minor abrasions at edges; vertical and horizontal folds. Paper. The Swedish Games were held twice - in 1916 and 1922. The idea was conceived when the 1916 Olympic Games were cancelled due to the ongoing conflict of the First World War. Swedes, Danes and Norwegians were invited to compete in many of the events that would have been featured in the Olympics: swimming, wrestling, cycling, track and field, rowing, shooting and more. Pictured are the towers flanking Stockholm's Olympic Stadium, built for the 1912 Games. Schönberg had entered the design competition for the poster promoting the 1912 Olympic Games and came in second place behind the winner, Olle Hjortzberg.
