      *Hermanus Petrus Schouten (1747-1822) VIEW OF THE GROEBURGWAL, AMSTERDAM, WITH THE ZUIDERKERK IN THE DISTANCE oil on panel 15 1/2 by 21 1/4 in. 39.4 by 54cm. This view of Amsterdam depicts the street called Groeburgwal. In the center background is the famous Zuiderkerk, designed by Hendrik de Keyser and completed in 1614. A similar view, but without the foreground, is depicted in an engraving by H. Schouten (father of the present artist) in Atlas Fouquet published in 1775.
