In his works, Schröter, places the people in the foreground. He does not document the 1950s in pictures of ruins but reveals the flourishing life of the postwar period. In the present snapshot, for example, he captured the exuberant mood at the Leipzig Christmas market. The gelatin silver print is signed 'W. G. Schröter' as well as inscribed and titled 'Weihnachtsmarkt, 1956 / (Leipzig)' on verso in pencil.
