      Gemäldepaar LÄNDLICHE VOLKSFESTSZENEN MIT HÖFISCHER FIGURENSTAFFAGE Öl auf Leinwand. Je 49 x 63 cm. Linkes Bild links unten signiert und datiert „1784“. Die beiden Gemälde von hoher Qualität sind kompositionell aufeinander bezogen. So liegt der Darstellungsschwerpunkt mit Gebäuden jeweils links, bzw. rechts. In beiden Gemälden sind je ein höfischer Reiter hervorgehoben, deren Stellung in der genannten Hängeweise auch einander zugewandt erscheinen. Entsprechend der Entstehungszeit des späten 18. Jahrhunderts sind die Landschaften feinpinselig und lichtvoll gehalten. Im linken Bild zeigt der Maler den Reiter vor einem Schlosstor mit erhöhtem Garten, im Gespräch mit einer Dame in weißem Seidenkleid, in Begleitung mit ihrem Gemahl und einem Knaben. Der Reiter weist auf eine Szene im rechten Hintergrund; dort ist ein Reiterspiel zu sehen, bei dem die Preistrophäe zwischen zwei Holzpfeilern den Sieger erwartet. Weiter rechts eine Bauerngruppe im Tanzreigen, mit Musikanten vor der Taverne. Das rechte Bild führt in ein Jahrmarktgeschehen, mit polnischen Pferdehändlern, im Kaftan mit Pelzhüten. Dahinter strohgedeckte Häuser vor einem Kirchturm, rechts eine Bude mit einem Quacksalber, der seine Arzneien anbietet, von der Volksmenge bestaunt. Auch hier dominiert der höfische Reiter im Bild, diesmal auf einem Schimmel. Rechts Pferde an der Tränke. Nach links hinten ziehen einige Personen mit Pferden bereits zum Dorfausgang. Die genauere Betrachtung zeigt die Zusammengehörigkeit der Bilder auch durch die morgendliche- bzw. abendliche Lichtstimmung gegeben. Die Landschaften dokumentieren den Charakter des sächsischen Hügellandes, die polnischen Händler die damalige politische Einheit von Sachsen und Polen. Der Dresdener Maler Schubert tat sich auch als Zeichner und Stecher hervor. 1772 war er Akademieschüler von Charles Hutin und Giovanni Battista Casanova, ab 1795 Malerei-Vorsteher der Meißner Manufaktur. Weithin bekannt wurde er durch seine Stich-Illustrationen, wie z.B. Goethes „Leiden des jungen Werthers“. A. R. (1231401) (3) (11)
