Franz-Theodor Schütt Sold at Auction Prices

b. 1908 - d. 1990

Through his father, Franz-Theodor Schütt received training in the fields of painting and drawing at the School of Applied Arts in Szczecin, where he also studied sculpture and ceramics under Kurt Schwerdtfeger from 1925 to 1929. From 1929 to 1931 he studied interior design in Szczecin and Munich. From 1931 he works as a freelance artist in Szczecin. He finds inspiration by the verism of George Grosz, Otto Dix or Rudolf Schlichter. As a result, he developed a primarily graphic style and is one of the important representatives of the New Objectivity. In 1934 he exhibited with Max Pechstein, Willy Jaeckel and Kurt Schwerdtfeger in Köslin / Pomerania, but the exhibition was closed for political reasons. His entire pre-war work (about 1000 works) is destroyed in a bomb attack on Szczecin in 1943. From 1947 to 1950 he lives in Frankfurt / Main, the rest of his life in Wiesbaden. From 1971 to 1978 he received a lectureship at the Technical University in Darmstadt. He receives recognition through awards and solo exhibitions, his works are represented in numerous museums. The majority of the surviving artistic estate is in the Pomeranian State Museum Greifswald.
